Sturdy and reasonably priced October 28, 2009

The asking price for this unit is reasonable since the frame is not solid wood. It is made of compressed cork/flake board with a wooden design panel as the outer shell. I have purchased other furniture pieces made of this material but I have to admit that after assembling the South Shore Twin Mates Bed together, the bed was very sturdy and it lays squarely flat on the floor. However, I would not use the drawers for any heavy objects since the bottom of the drawers are made up of a piece of board that resembles Luan and it sits in place by lining it up to very thin groves on the sides of the drawer. Any heavy items will cause it concave and pop out. We decided to use the drawers for socks, sleepwear and undergarments since these items will be lightweight.
Make sure to carefully exam the section in the instructions for installing the drawer metal guard rails. We had to remove and reinstall the rails since the instructions that were included were for another model.
Even though the drawers are not of the best quality, I still give it a 4 star review since I expected the unit to be constructed less quality materials for the price I paid. Overall this bed frame makes a great "short term" or guest bed for any child.
